Does anyone have...

...any non eye related health problems?

I was just wondering, as I have quite a few!

The most recent thing (well something I have had for as long as I can remember but only went to doctors about it last week and got it diagnosed) is Femoral Antiversion. I'm not sure exactly what it means but its something to do with the joints in my hips being twisted or in the wrong place. It causes me to have flat footed-ness / dropped arches, painful feet, blisters in places doctor said people cant get blisters in  , my right foot sticks out at any where from a 45 - 90 % angle from my other foot, and I kick myself in the ankle every step I take, and my knees are often painful and lock if I stand still for very long. I need to have a scan to see how bad it is, and depending on the results I have the option of having an operation to fix it, however y Dr has had patients with it before, and none of them have opted for the operation, they would rather just put up with it...but it is really starting to get on my nerves!

I have a wheat intolerance which really limits what I can eat, and if that was not enough I had to go to hospital last month and was diagnosed with an irritable Gallbladder which means I now have to be on a fat free diet as well as a whet free diet so there is not a lot I can eat any more and it is so boring! And to top it off, when I do find something I can eat it is a struggle to actually eat, as from my canines forward my teeth do not meet (5mm gap) so when i bite something it doesn’t actually break off and makes eating quite awkward. My mum tried to get me braces to correct it, taking me to specialist dentist and the like, but they refused to give me them, so I just have to put up with that as well.

Sorry 2 hear that Emma. I"ve got 2 go 2 the dentist & have a tooth out on one side. If that wasn"t enough, I have a swollen gum on the other where I"ll need a root canal. - With that, they have to drill out the whole inside of the tooth & remove the root and replace it wid a special hard filling.

Blimey Emma, poor you, as if having nystagmus isn’t bad enough . . .

You make me feel guilty about mentioning my age related aches and pains, so I won’t. :)

I’m surprised the Orthodontist refused to help with your teeth, did he give you a reason why he wouldn’t help? You could always go private, I suppose, but it ‘ain’t cheap’.
I have congenital nystagmus as do several other members of my family, including my grandson.

I sucked my thumb when my Mum was expecting me so when I was born the roof of my mouth was a slightly dif shape as my thumb was there when it was developing...they said it COULD be corrected by a brace but as it is my fault they wont =s

That is ridiculous. How can they say it’s your fault when, as a tiny infant or unborn child, you would have no control over your actions. Perhaps you could get a referral from your dentist or doctor to a more sympathetic Orthodontist.

I will be seeing a different dentist soon (the one I used to go to has changed so they now only see school children or something, so I had to change) so I will ask them about it. I just hope if they do do something about it that they do not send me to the same specialist I saw before, who is stupid!

Also I got a letter from my Dr this morning about my Femoral Antiversion, saying I will be receiving an appointment from a specialist, and that he is not worried but would like to see if there is anything they can do for me :D

That is ridiculous about it being your fault! I mean, you weren't even born...Hopefully the new dentist you go to will be more sympathetic!! All the best!
I have congenital idiopathic nystagmus but wasn't diagnosed until I was 7. I am the only person I know with nystagmus!

I'm wheat intolerant too.

my teeth do not meet

Mine don't either - one of my front teeth is bigger than it should be.

I went to dentist today and maybe getting some of the probs with my teeth sorted :)

they told me it looks like i grind my teeth in my sleep as my back teeth have no enamel and are uneaven where is has been ground off :? but they making me a tooth guard to wear when i sleep so i cant do any more damage. i asked them about having braces coz my top front teeth r further forward than botton teeth, and my botton teeth r very over crowded. they asked y i didnt already have braces which is a good sign i suppose n i told them that i had tried to get them before but couldnt. they said now i am an adult i would have to pay to have braces (even though i get free dentist treatment :? ) but they have referred me to orthodontist so we can talk about if there is anything that can be done.

I'm thinking about asking them to remove teeth. my dad had teeth removed and the other teeth spread out to fill the gaps. maybe if they took teeth out (the ones with least enamel left :-P ) then my front teeth might un-crowd a bit and i may not need braces on the bottom teeth. that way if i did have to pay to have braces it would cost me half as much.

I imagine they would remove teeth first, Emma. With me they did. In the end, I decided not to have braces. Given that I'd waited 4 years (not joking!) just to have 5 teeth removed, I dread to think how long it would've taken for them to sort my braces out.

Interesting thread. I myself used to have earaches when I was younger. I also had abnormal teeth (but really, who doesn't?). Other than that, my left leg is slightly bigger than my right leg, I used to get chronic headaches from like 10-12 years old and that is my history of problems. Also, for the last couple years I have interestingly had my urine tend to burn (no explanations yet for that).

I had migraine from the age 12 to 15. I was fine until I had a fit one night. (epilepsy runs in the family)

I think I mentioned before that due to the way I hold my head, I have problems with the muscles in my neck. I now have to have injections into the muscles.

Yes, I used to have a lot of back and neck problems when I was younger. Had to go to a lot of hospital appointments and have x rays and blood tests. They couldn't find anything so said it was probably due to the way I hold my head. It's not so bad now, although occasionally my back goes and I can't walk properly or do much at all for a few days.

A few months ago I woke up one morning with a very bad neck so thought it must be down to me sleeping awkwardly that night but it lasted a few days. Then I went away for the weekend to Brighton and on the train coming home, my neck went again. I hadn't been sitting awkwardly or anything, was very random. And again, it lasted a few days. I guess it was still weak from when I hurt it before.

There was one time when I was 12 and I woke up with a bad neck (this was the first time it happened) and it was so bad that I couldn't go to school as I couldn't even get dressed! I had to stay in bed and the cordless phone was given to me so I wouldn't have to get up to answer it. But like most 12 year olds, I got bored so decided I would go downstairs..But my neck was so bad that I fell out of bed and couldn't get up. Fortunately, we have a house on the grounds of the school where my dad works so it was easy to come home and help me. So I had to try and get the phone from off my bed and ring him at work! Was quite embarrassing actually

i went to an appointment at the hospital and they told me that i do not have femeral aniversion as this would result in my foot sticking in and not out...i looked it up online and as far as i can tell it can be either, and my GP said it def is, so i dunno which to believe. but after a number of tests the dr at the hospital said there is nothing noticeably wrong with my legs / hips / feet / whatever and i need physiotherapy to learn how to walk normally. i doubt it will help though, as if i try to walk properly i can not ballance, i get hip pain, i kick myself, and get loads of other problems all the time, so there has to be a cause and not just that i just need to learn how to walk!

I think this isn't what helps with me. Hurt it in October 2007 and again a few more times this year.
